Autism Identification (Assessment)

Live Out Loud offers a comprehensive, neuro-affirmative, strengths-based and interdisciplinary autism assessment service for children and young people aged 15 – 25. All assessments will be completed by the team, consisting of a psychologist and speech-language pathologist. In the case of occupational therapy needs being identified during the assessment, a referral will be made and included in the report recommendations.

A neuro-affirmative assessment appreciates the abilities, strengths, interests, talents, gifts and needs of each individual, does not seek to change the uniqueness of the child or young person, but rather seek to accommodate the needs and to outline the best possible supports for the individual to thrive in all settings, be it at home, in school and or in the community.

Service Description

The assessment process will include the following activities:

  • Meet and greet parents and child / young person (online)
  • Information gathering (home, school, other) and review of all previous clinical reports, full developmental history
  • School observation (younger children), as and if required
  • Preparation support for parents and child / young person
  • Parent clinical interview, informed by the Autism Diagnostic Interview – Revised (ADI-R)
  • Play-based / semi-structured interview with child / young person, informed by the Autism Observation Schedule– 2nd Edition (ADOS-2)
  • Outcomes conversation with parents and child / young person, as preferred
  • A detailed interdisciplinary report, outlining your child’s abilities, strengths, interests, talents, gifts and needs, with clear recommendations

Live Out Loud prides itself in offering before, during and after assessment (autism identification) support to parents/carers and families.
